What Do You Need to Be a Zumba® Instructor?

As a Zumba® instructor, you get to choose where, when and how often you want to hold classes — you can even set your own rate and payment structure. To start the licensing process, you need to be 18 years or older at the time of registration. That's the only requirement!

Other than that, you may find that an interest in dance, fitness, exercise or leading classes can help. You don't need any prior experience to become a Zumba® instructor, but any related background will likely help you grasp the fitness dances even sooner.

How to Get a Zumba® Instructor License in North Dakota

If you're ready to start your career as a Zumba® instructor, your first step will be to register for a Zumba® instructor training course. The main instructor course you'll participate in is Zumba® Basic 1. Zumba® Basic 1 equips you with everything you need for a strong foundation in Zumba® class leadership, with all the basic rhythms and variations in a fun, high energy session.

Your Zumba® License which you will receive after your training, lasts six months. However, you could become an active Zumba® Instructor Network (ZIN) member, which ensures your license won't expire as long as you remain a member.

Where to Take Instructor Training Courses

You have two options for taking your training courses:

In Person Training Courses

Find an instructor course near you to get in person training and meet other Zumba® enthusiasts in your area. To register, fill out the registration information online with the name you want to appear on your official license. You will receive two separate confirmation emails — one upon successful registration and another about a week before your training with all the information you need to know for the day of the training, like parking and scheduling.

An in person Zumba® training gives you firsthand experience with a skilled Zumba® instructor, providing you with the skills and experiences you'll need to teach your own Zumba® classes. After your in person training, you can go on to teach in person and/or online Zumba® classes.

Online Training Courses

Can't make it to an in person training course? In just 8 - 10 hours, you can complete an online Zumba® instructor training course. Your online lesson comes with all the music, tips and tools you need to start leading Zumba® classes. Choose from livestream and on demand training options to find what suits your schedule the best. Just as you can teach in person or virtually after an in person training, you can teach Zumba® anywhere after your online training courses.
