What Does It Take to Be a Zumba® Instructor in Nevada?

Anyone 18 and older can participate in the necessary training courses to become a Licensed Zumba® Instructor. You'll have the most success if you're:

  • Enthusiastic: A love for learning will help you stay on top of industry changes, trends and all the latest and greatest Zumba® offerings.
  • Passionate: When you love what you do, it's easy to help others fall in love with it, too. Loving Zumba® means prioritizing living a fun, healthy and active lifestyle you can share with others!
  • Self-starting: All Zumba® instructors are independent contractors, which means you get to set your own schedule, decide where you want to host classes, what your rate is and more. Being a self-starter requires discipline and determination, and it gives you all the freedom you need to shape your career.

While you don't need any specific experience to become a Licensed Zumba® Instructor, a background in fitness, dance, gymnastics or cheerleading might give you the perfect edge and make classes even easier to lead.

How to Get a Zumba® License in Nevada

To get a Zumba® license, you need to enroll in a Zumba® Basic 1 instructor course. The Zumba® Instructor training is a high-energy course that will teach you everything you need to know about Zumba®'s foundation, core rhythms and variations. The four core rhythms of Zumba® include reggaeton, merengue, salsa and cumbia. During this training, you'll learn these fundamentals and how to apply these rhythms and variations to a workout routine.

Once you've completed the instructor training course and received your license, continue to sharpen your skills by joining the Zumba® Instructor Network, or ZIN™, and get all the information you need to start teaching classes and being an active part of the Zumba® community.

Where to Take Instructor Training Courses

You have two options when it comes to taking an instructor training — in person or online. In person instructor training offers valuable feedback and one-on-one support with a Zumba® specialist. During the in person training, you'll learn alongside other students and gain valuable insight into leading your own class. In addition to in person training, virtual courses are also available to earn your Zumba® license. You can still lead in person classes even if you earn your Zumba® license virtually.

In Person Trainings

In person training courses let you learn from an expert and get hands-on assistance learning new skills. To register, find an instructor training course near you, and get started on your journey as a Zumba® instructor. About a week before the training session is scheduled to start, you'll get another email with details about training course logistics, like parking, location and other essential information.

In person trainings are an excellent way to discover the fundamentals of Zumba® because you can learn alongside other participants. With a Zumba® Education Specialist guiding the training session, you'll learn all of the basic information and additional tips and tricks on how to succeed in your dance fitness career.

Virtual Trainings

Are you working with a busy schedule or see no instructor courses near you? Zumba® virtual training courses let you complete the course from the comfort of your home with all the tools, training and support you need to start teaching classes. You have two options to choose from, the first is an on demand training. This is a 10-hour interactive training that you can take at your own pace and you will have access to a coach, in case you have questions. The second option is a livestream training course via Zoom, where you will get a similar vibe to the in-person training because you will be able to learn and interact with the Zumba® Education Specialist, as well as other potential instructors taking the course.

Throughout Nevada, many residents are looking for exciting exercise classes to stay healthy and active, resulting in high demand for Zumba® instructors. A career as a Zumba® Instructor offers you a fun way to make a positive change in the lives of many and help them become the best version of themselves.

Where to Find Work as a Zumba® Instructor

Nevada's top cities are Las Vegas, Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Henderson. These areas have communities of people who love working out, so you can find like-minded and interested individuals to fill up your in person Zumba® classes. Plus, you should be able to locate different places where you can work as a Zumba® instructor. While traditional gyms and fitness centers are ideal places to hold a dance fitness class, various facilities and organizations all over the state are interested in qualified Zumba® instructors, including:

College Campuses

College campuses throughout Nevada are always looking for talented fitness instructors to lead engaging exercise classes for students. You can check with local colleges and universities to see if there are any openings in their fitness centers for dance fitness instructors and classes.

Recreational Facilities

Recreational facilities are always incorporating unique activities to engage the local community. With a Zumba® license, you can start your career as a dance fitness instructor at a recreational facility and inspire the local community with your passion for fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Parks and Outdoor Spaces

Indoor classes are great, but sometimes it's nice to get outside and experience the beautiful weather Nevada has to offer. Hosting Zumba® classes in parks or outdoor spaces is a fun way to get some fresh air while dancing to the lively rhythms of Zumba®. You can find plenty of parks and outdoor areas in Nevada that offer beautiful scenery and a large amount of space to host a class.

As a Zumba® Instructor, all you need is the ability to broadcast your music, space for your participants and a good surface to dance on to teach Zumba® classes! When the weather permits, outdoor parks — even parking lots — are great places to host classes of all sizes!

Online Classes

As a contractor, you can offer your Zumba® instruction anywhere you'd like, including online through the Zumba® virtual class site. All you need is an internet connection, the right equipment and an open space to broadcast your classes, and you can reach more people than ever before!

Tips for Your First Zumba® Class

You've put in the time and work to get your Zumba® license — congratulations! You're now ready to start leading virtual, in person classes or both. You know what you're doing, but it's normal to feel a little anxious and excited about your new journey.

Here are some tips to help you prepare for your first session:

  • Know that one size doesn't always fit all. As your classes progress, you may find that your students prefer a specific style of dance or lesson, maybe more so than other variations — meet them where they are and lean into those interests! As they get more comfortable, you can help them learn new skills and try new things together.
  • Make sure your sign-in sheet doubles as a waiver to keep you protected in case of any injuries or mishaps that could occur.
  • Practice may not make perfect, but it does help you feel more confident on the big day. Host fake classes at home in front of your mirror and make sure you're well-versed in how to lead a class with your body, smile and personality. Remember, your students will likely be as nervous as you are, especially if they're beginners! The important part is to have fun, stay safe and focus on your shared love of dance.
