Zumba® Instructor Qualifications

Anyone can take Zumba® instructor courses as long as they're 18 years or older. If you meet this age requirement, there's nothing holding you back from signing up for Zumba® instructor training. You can start working toward your Zumba® Instructor License by registering for Zumba® instructor training.

The Zumba® instructor training will teach you the basic requirements for leading Zumba® classes and how to effectively engage, challenge and encourage clients. After completing your Zumba® instruction training, you'll receive your license and be ready to lead classes of your own.

State Requirements to Become a Dance Fitness Instructor in Hawaii

Because Hawaii takes its fitness seriously, you'll need to prove you're knowledgeable and qualified enough to become a dance fitness instructor in Hawaii. To get hired in Hawaii as a Zumba® instructor, you should have a current Zumba® Instructor License, which you can earn through a Zumba® instructor training program. Your license will demonstrate you have the skills and education necessary to lead Zumba classes.

Keep in mind that the specific requirement for you to be a Zumba® instructor may differ from gym to gym. Some dance studios or fitness centers could require their instructors to have a group fitness instructor license as well as their Zumba® Instructor License. Be intentional about asking whoever is in charge of group fitness instruction at the center you're interested in about their protocol for Zumba® instructors.

Some studios, gyms or fitness centers may also expect you to have a CPR license. Regardless of whether it's required, it may be beneficial to be CPR certified when applying to teach any type of group fitness class. You can get trained in CPR by signing up for classes through an American Red Cross near you.

Where to Work as a Zumba® Instructor in Hawaii

Once you've secured your Zumba® Instructor License, you'll be ready to start teaching Zumba® classes. Because each Zumba® instructor is an independent contractor, you'll get to plan out your own schedule, set your own rates, create your terms and any other agreements with the fitness center or studio of your choice.

These well-established gyms may offer you a great opportunity to launch your Zumba® instructor career. Working at one of these gyms will allow you to build your client base and boost your reputation as an excellent Zumba® instructor. However, you can work basically anywhere, from parks to offices and everywhere in between!
