Hi, I'm Judy
Young, and I live in Oakland, CA US. I've been a ZIN™ Member since April 2015,
but I’ve been dancing all my life! I enjoy teaching Zumba because I love
encouraging people to move as a celebration of life, health and pure joy
regardless of body type, size or ability level. With a 30-year career in public
health, Zumba allows me to align my professional and personal interest in
health, inclusivity, and spreading happiness!
JAM4JOY is the business I
started in 2015 with Angie Shin (fellow ZIN) to build community, encourage healthy moving, and raise awareness and funds about important issues impacting our community. Since sheltering in place
began , we have offered daily live streaming classes via ZOOM to
help people cope, feel connected, and release stress in a healthy way. Five thousand dollars in contributions to JAM4JOY, collected from March through June, were donated to the Alameda County Community Food Bank to support the increase in demand for food for families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In our second campaign focused on racial justice, and the Movement for Black Lives, we raised $6,000 that was donated to Black Organizing Project in Oakland, CA.
Our current campaign focuses on environmental justice and supports Mycelium Youth Network
. This organization uses ancestral traditions and practices as well as cutting edge Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) to teach youth about climate adaptation and mitigation.
