What does it mean to you to be a woman making moves?

You have the responsibility of showing other women that we don’t have to fit in one box only – women can be leaders at work, partners at home, examples as moms, support system as friends. As long as we are taking care of ourselves in the process, the sky truly is the limit thanks to women before us.

What projects have you worked on that were especially meaningful in your career?

The Zumba Rebrand! It feels good to tell the world what we’ve known all along – that Zumba truly helps people on a physical and emotional level. This brand is a partner in transformation for women around the world, and I am proud to see that message displayed on our channels and creative work.

I also love the Zumba Wear size tags…one of my first Zumba projects 😉

What do you love about working at Zumba?

The People – our instructors, our consumers, my colleagues (friends), the owners. Across the board, Zumba® is a brand of good people.

Why is it important to recognize women making moves?

To continue to support and inspire generations to come.

What do you want to say to all the Zumba fans out there?

Keep spreading the Zumba® love!

What advice would you give to women interested in breaking into your field?

Be confident. Use your intuition and empathy (two qualities most women often underestimate) and never believe you can’t do it all.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I was a waitress and the mouse at Chucky E. Cheese’s. I also lived in 4 different countries (Brazil, Belgium, US and France) and speak 4 different languages.

What does it mean to you to be a woman making moves?

To me, it means being unafraid to take risks and try new things in order to keep learning and growing. We all have something amazing to offer if we just find the courage to put ourselves out there and don’t let anyone or anything hold us back.

What projects have you worked on that were especially meaningful in your career?

One of my favorite projects I have worked on in my 16+ years was ZIN™ Now, I enjoyed every stage of that project and the amazing people I worked with on it. This project truly changed the lives of most ZINs – they no longer had to wait for their monthly Volumes and Megamixs to arrive in the mail.

What projects have you worked on that have made an impact on women (both in the Zumba community and beyond)?

Since the majority of ZINs are women, I am extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work on products that have impacted women for the past 10 years.  ZIN™ Play, JAM sessions, Class Management, B1 On-Demand, etc. are all products that are predominantly used by women and are making an impact on their career as instructors, and indirectly impacting their students’ lives as well.

What do you love about working at Zumba?

In the field of product management, where you build products that you hope will add value to the lives of the end users, it is hard to get feedback from those end users. Working at Zumba has been a dream because unlike other places I have worked, the end users (ZINs) are absolutely amazing.  They are eager to give feedback and tell us about their experience using the products and how we can continue to improve these products. I love being able to build products that solve problems for ZINs who appreciate the solutions we provide and are vocal about it.

Why is it important to recognize women making moves?

As women, there are so many obstacles in our way as we try to move forward, some obstacles are blatant, some subtle and others are inherent.  For a woman to persevere despite these obstacles is a major feat, there is so much creativity we would miss out on if we do not encourage, support and recognize women making moves.

What do you want to say to all the Zumba fans out there?

We love you and the energy you bring to every class. You make this world a better, happier place. Don’t ever stop dancing!

What advice would you give to women interested in breaking into your field?

There are a lot of hats you have to wear as a Product Manager and there can be a lot of ambiguity at times, but no matter what you have to find solutions that solves customer problems or satisfies a need.  So first, determine if this is something you would be comfortable with, find someone in the field that is willing to share their experiences with you and mentor you.  Finally, start your career search, this field can’t wait for more creative women like you.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I lived in Italy for five years and went to an Italian Middle and High School. I absolutely loved it, and I am still fairly fluent in the language.  I was also a NCAA athlete, I had a full Tennis scholarship to Miami University. My tennis team consisted of women from all over the world, that was where I truly understood how diverse, unique and amazing we all are no matter where we are from.

I worked on licensing songs for one of the Latin GRAMMY® Awards, and that felt amazing.

What do you love about working at Zumba?

In my 26 years of licensing music, the most gratifying job has been licensing music for Zumba®.  We’ve had women come to the music department thanking us because Zumba® gave them the confidence to helped change their lives for the better.  Zumba® provided a career for them while also giving them the flexibility to take care of their children.  We were all honored and humbled by their gratitude.

Why is it important to recognize women making moves?

It’s important because women making moves are women with CONFIDENCE!!!  Women with confidence are successful women!  Women with confidence make things happen. Women with confidence is what we need young girls to look up to.  Whether you are making moves to further your career, making moves to take care of your family, making moves on the dance floor, or all of the above, moving gives you a sense of accomplishment, and feeling accomplished gives you CONFIDENCE!!!

It was a beautiful collaboration with different women from all walks of life that was inspiring and encouraging! Beyond Zumba, I host a female empowerment podcast called “Girls Gone Boss,” and we just kicked off our 5th season. The podcast gives women a platform to tell their story to empower the future generation of female leaders to think big and never give up on their dreams.

Zumba® is a special place like no other. What I love the most is that we are truly making a difference in people’s lives. Zumba® is not just a community but an extended family that supports you, cheers you on and has your back!

Why is it important to recognize women making moves?

As women, we tend to not celebrate ourselves because we are so busy multitasking and wearing multiple hats between home and work. It’s important to recognize each other as a reminder that we are strong and capable. Everything we do is with passion and purpose and that is worth celebrating!

Thank you! Thank you for your passion and your kind hearts. Thank you for giving me a chance to leave my footprint in this community.

What projects have you worked on that were especially meaningful in your career?

I had the opportunity to revamp the POS system at the ZumbaWear Store at the annual Zumba Instructor Convention. We upgraded the system from the traditional cash registers to an iPad system. This was a super fun project and it allowed us to streamline the processes and provide additional benefits to the ZIN members like automatically emailing the ZIN a copy of the store receipt.

What projects have you worked on that have made an impact on women (both in the Zumba community and beyond)?

I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity when I was a child, and it really made an impact on me. It was amazing to help families in need and meet those that you are helping at the actual build. This carried over with me as an adult and in the past have organized Women’s Builds. Here, at Zumba, for one of our Philanthropic Days, we had the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity representing the Finance & Accounting Department. It’s fun to get out of the office and spend time with my co-workers in a different environment. I think I may surprise you because I am not afraid to get down and dirty. In the past, I have done roofing, sodding, painting and even tile grouting. It if needs to be done, I am the first one to raise my hand!

What do you love about working at Zumba?

I love Zumba’s overall culture. It starts with the People I work with – I know it cliche but Zumba has become my second family. Zumba has created an environment that supports working mothers. As a working mom of three young children, this is very important to me have a well work-life balance. The flexibility has allowed me to attend my children’s important events. Also, I love meeting ZIN’s from all over the world during annual Zumba Instructor Convention.

Why is it important to recognize women making moves?

To continue to open doors for future female leaders.

What do you want to say to all the Zumba fans out there?

Being in email marketing gives me the opportunity to be involved in 90% of the projects here at Zumba. That said, I really enjoyed contributing to the “Your moves matter” launched in May 2020. What projects have you worked on that were especially meaningful in your career?

Whenever I work on a project with a Zumba® instructor I know I’m going have the best experience ever. Hearing their stories, their successes, and their struggles, it’s such a beautiful thing. Then being able to take those stories and share them with the world…it’s such an honor and privilege for me. If even one person watches a video [we made] and feels inspired, that means the world. It really does bring a lot of meaning to what I do.

What projects have you worked on that have made an impact on women (both in the Zumba community and beyond)?

In my free time, I like to mentor women who are small businesses owners with their digital marketing. Whether it’s advice or how to setup a website or how to run ads, I’m really passionate about digital marketing, and it’s really cool to be able to share your knowledge and help someone succeed.

It’s cool to see someone like me be recognized. Representation is so important. My parents are immigrants from Cuba and because of their sacrifices I can have all of these opportunities and successes. I know a lot of women can relate to my story and maybe seeing me will show them that they can be a Woman Making Moves, too.”

What projects have you worked on that were especially meaningful in your career?

Getting the chance to lead the design and user experience of apps like ZIN™ Play and ZIN™ Now were exceptionally meaningful. Not only because of the value they would eventually bring to the customer, but in large part because of the team I worked alongside to bring them to fruition. These projects are great examples of what you can do when you surround yourself with like-minded, talented, and passionate people.

What projects have you worked on that have made an impact on women (both in the Zumba community and beyond)?

With women being the primary users of Zumba’s tools, I’d say most of my work here has had some form of impact on that community. Outside of Zumba I used a passion project to help raise funds for a local women’s shelter, the Lotus House. We raised enough money to buy and personally deliver a handful of new beds to their shelter. That was a good day.

What advice would you give to women interested in breaking into your field?

Get it girl! Gone are the days where women had to take a back seat to men in the Tech sector. Women not only make up a large part of user experience and user interface designers, but they are leading and excelling in these roles. Whether you’re interested in coding, designing or product strategy, there are bootcamps, college courses, and internships that can help get you started.

About three years ago, I wrote an illustrated a book about my Cuban heritage as an anniversary present for my husband. Since then I’ve published two other books, spun them off into an E-commerce business and sold over 5,000 copies. You just never know where life will take you.
